Why the room you work in changes how you think

The quiet energy of working alongside people who are building, creating and solving something that matters.

There’s something about working alongside other people doing real work that changes the shape of your own thinking. Not the performative networking kind of energy, the quiet kind. Everyone just trying to solve something that matters, heads down, getting on with it.

I found this recently at Corgi Cafe, a 24/7 coworking space I popped into one evening with a friend. Matcha in hand, laptop open, and that was that.

What struck me was the ambient energy in the room. Nobody was there to be seen. They were building, creating, working through something hard, and that intention is contagious. At home, I’ll happily find ten things to do before I sit down and focus. In a room full of people already doing the work, procrastination doesn’t get much of a look in.

If your work needs deep, uninterrupted thought but you also want to feel part of something while you do it, it’s worth seeking out spaces like this.

Where do you feel most productive? We’d love to hear what works for you, and if you’ve found a favourite spot to focus in London, tell us. We’re always keen to add good places to the network.
